After a less than favorable response to last year’s hosts, the Oscars Academy is looking to make up for it with this year. The latest rumor as reported by Deadline.com is that the co-producer of the upcoming awards, Brett Ratner, is pushing to have comedian Eddie Murphy host the ceremony. Ratner has just completed directing the upcoming film “Tower Heist” which stars Murphy and Ben stiller.
Although there is no official word yet from the Academy, according to reports a decision could be made on Tuesday when Ratner and Don Mischer are set to meet up with the Academy’s president, Tom Sherak.
There is also a great deal of speculation that the other frontrunner being considered to host the 84th Academy Awards is Billy Crystal. Reportedly he has expressed interest in hosting again; Crystal has hosted the Oscars eight times between 1990 and 2004. There have also been reports that Oprah is being considered as this year’s host.
