Wyclef Jean reportedly demanded $100,000 for a charity event for Haiti in 2006.
The French charity FXB International proposed a benefit concert with Jean’s charity to raise funds for Lasere community center. Lasere was once his hometown.
Jean founded a foundation Yéle Haiti in 2005, but Gawker has “allegedly obtained a 2006 email from the charity’s president Hugh Locke, demanding a “performance fee to Wyclef of $100,000”.
According to a source, the gig, planned to be held at the Sunset Beach hotel in Long Island, New York, was “too expensive”, in part because of his fee.
The rapper, said that he “spent a day picking up dead bodies” after the earthquake, already spoke out to charity-screening groups who questioned his accountancy.
