BBC reports that the rock band The Police have written some of the most commonly misheard pop lyrics of all time.

No less then two of the band’s songs are featured on a new list over the 10 most misunderstood lyrics ever, according to a recent poll.

Number one on the list is The Police song “When The World Is Running Down” in which “you make the best of what’s still around” is misheard by many as “you make the best homemade stew around”.

Here are some of the other commonly misheard lyrics:

The Beatles – ”Lucy in the sky with diamonds”
Correct: ”the girl with kaleidoscope eyes”
Wrong: ”the girl with colitis goes by”

The Police – ”Message in a Bottle”
Correct: ”A year has passed since I wrote my note”
Wrong: ”A year has passed since I broke my nose”

Bee Gees – ”Stayin’ alive”
Correct: ”it’s alright, it’s okay, you may look the other way”
Wrong: ”it’s alright, it’s okay, you make love the other way”

Oasis – ”Wonderwall”
Correct: ”you’re gonna be the one that saves me”
Wrong: ”you’re gonna be the one at Sainsbury’s”

Queen – ”Bohemian Rhapsody”
Correct: ”scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?”
Wrong: ”scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the banned tango?”

    I’ve always thought Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” goes like this: “She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she crossed the scene”

    Now I know that she didn’t walk across a stage, but “caused a scene”…
