Weeknd to Perform at 2021 Super Bowl Halftime Show

The Weeknd has been announced as the headlining musical guest to take the stage during the 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Performing on the Iconic Stage

The Weeknd confirmed the news by writing the following on twitter: “Performing on the iconic stage. see you 02/07/21.”

The Grammy-winning musician, 30, also said:

“We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.”

Roc Nation and Emmy-nominated producer Jesse Collins will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show. It’s the second year of collaboration between the NFL, Pepsi and Roc Nation.

“The Weeknd has introduced a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry,” said Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter, who runs Roc Nation, and is also co-executive producer of the show.

“This is an extraordinary moment in time and the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer,” he added.

The Headliner Is Revealed

Super Bowl LV is scheduled to take place in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 7, 2021, and will air on CBS.

Last year’s halftime show in Miami featured Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. The performance included multiple Spanish-language songs, as the show was designed to be a celebration of Latino culture.

Todd Kaplan, VP of marketing at Pepsi, stated the following in a press release:
“The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the most anticipated performances of the year and we are thrilled to welcome The Weeknd to the stage,” said “Pepsi has worked with some of music’s biggest artists over the years – from Prince to Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and most recently Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

After a year that’s largely been void of live music, we can’t wait to watch The Weeknd transform the world’s biggest stage with his limitless talent and creativity, delivering what will most certainly be an unforgettable performance that will be remembered for years to come.”
