Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick” will be coming to our cinemas two days earlier than expected!
Bringing the Date Forward
Paramount Pictures has recently announced that the blockbuster will be released on June 24th.
Though the initial date was June 26th, 2020, the movie is now set to hit the screens a little bit earlier.
The original release of the new film was planned for the summer of 2019, but filmmakers decided to push it to a later date. The main reason was to take more time to master the new technology used in the flight sequences.
Also, moving “Top Gun: Maverick” forward will give it a jump on Warner Bros’ “In the Heights”. The expected summer blockbuster is an adaption of stage musical from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Flying High Once Again
The “Top Gun” long became a classic. This movie became a huge success, grossing more than $350 million worldwide on a $15 million budget.
The sequel, set over 20 years later than the original, will see Tom Cruise reprising his role as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
“Maverick” will be set in a world of drone technology and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting. A recent trailer for the upcoming film showed Cruise as a flight instructor being introduced to young flyers.
The “Oblivion” director Joseph Kosinski is directing the follow-up to the 1986 classic action film. The script will be provided by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, and Eric Warren Singer. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first movie with the late Don Simpson, will also be back. He is producing the film along with Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison.
Val Kilmer will also reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel.
The “Only the Brave” star Miles Teller will play Maverick’s new protégé. He is also the son of Goose, Maverick’s co-pilot played by Anthony Edwards in the original movie. The rest of the crew features Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, and more.
