Tom Cruise skips son’s film premiere, German critics pan Valkyrie

Tom Cruise

“Seven Pounds” is Tom Cruise’s adoptive son Connor’s first film, but Cruise decided not to attend the film premiere in Los Angeles Tuesday.

So what did Tom do that was so important that he decided to skip his 13-year-old son’s big-screen-debut? Well, according to MSNBC, he opted to continue promoting his own film “Valkyrie” in New York.

And in other news, Tom’s “Valkyrie” has been widely criticized by some film critics in Germany.

“The only thing that can definitely be said about this cinema adventure is that Tom Cruise, who has been damaged by his bizarre talk-show behaviour, may well continue storming the heights of the Scientology hierarchy as a thetan, but his image as an actor has been finally ruined by Valkyrie,” said Der Tages-spiegel’s critic.

And the Welt am Sonntag newspaper raged: “Cruise as Stauffenberg is about as deep as a bowl of cornflakes.”

However, there are also those who actually seem to like Tom’s new war flick. Tobias Kniebe from the Sueddeutsche Zeitung said for instance that even though the movie wasn’t really the masterpiece they had dreamed of, it was not much less.

“Valkyrie” opens in the United States on December 25 and in Germany on January 22.
