Ty Inc., the maker of Beanie Babies, has created new dolls for their TyGirlz Collection. The 12-inch dolls appear to be based on Barack and Michelle Obama’s two daughters, Sacha, 7, and Malia, 10, and are called “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia”.
But even though the dolls are pretty cute, the First Lady doesn’t seem too happy about the whole thing. “We believe it is inappropriate to use young, private citizens for marketing purposes,” Michelle’s spokeswoman says in a statement.
However, Ty Inc. denies that the dolls’ names refer to President Obama’s daughters. According to the company’s spokesperson, the company chose the names because “they are beautiful names,” and not because of any resemblance to Malia and Sasha Obama.
Yeah right!
