The Academy Awards 2009 – List of Nominees

“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” scored big this morning when the Academy Award nominees were revealed. The drama starring Brad Pitt nabbed a whopping 13 nominations, including best picture, best director and best actor.

“Slumdog Millionaire” got 10 nominations, including best picture and best director.

Mickey Rourke did not only win a Golden Globe this year, he also got nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his role in the drama “wrestler”. Other best actor nominees included Sean Penn (Milk), Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon).

Late actor Heath Ledger got a well deserved Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in “The Dark Night”. Other nominees in the Best Supporting Actor category included: Josh Brolin (Milk), Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt) and Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road)

The beautiful Anne Hathaway got a Best Actress nomination for her role in “Rachel Getting Married”. In this category she is competing against Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Meryl Streep (Doubt) and Kate Winslet (The Reader).
