Taylor Swift shocked everyone with her new album announcement.
Straight Out of Fairytale
The 30-year-old singer-songwriter seemingly out of nowhere said that her next album was going to be released the next day
“I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore.”
In a series of tweets, she explained her motivation behind it.
“To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.
I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.
I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them.”
Another Surprise
Swift also released folklore as a surprise album earlier this year, eleven months after its predecessor, Lover (2019). She wrote and recorded the album during the COVID-19 pandemic, conceiving it as “a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness” rising out of her imagination.
Recently Swift revealed that her boyfriend Joe Alwyn was a mystery folklore co-writer, credited under the pseudonym “William Bowery.”
The 30-year-old “Shake It Off” singer confirmed the true identity on the Disney+ documentary “folklore: the long pond studio sessions,” after some fans’ speculatations.
“There’s been a lot of discussion about William Bowery and his identity, because it’s not a real person,” Swift said in the documentary. “So William Bowery is Joe, as we know. And Joe plays piano beautifully and he’s always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things.”
Swift and Alwyn, a British actor, have been dating for four years.
