Stuntman Stabbed On Dexter Set

Jimmy Smits, an actor on the set of Showtimes hit, Dexter, actually accidentally stabbed a stuntman while the show was filming yesterday.

Smits, who portrays the character Miguel Prado, rather than selecting the prop knife picked up the real one and struck stunt man Jeff Chase in the chest, reports WENN.

The only thing that saved Chase was a piece of plastic that had been taped over his heart prior to the shows shooting.

Chase said: “For the scene, I was bound in Saran Wrap, duct tape over my mouth. I couldn’t say a thing as I saw Jimmy grab at the knife.

“He picked up the real one by pure mistake. It was a mean looking knife.”

He continued his discussion with “I heard fellow actor Michael C. Hall yelling at Jimmy to stop – but it was too late. I felt the thud in my chest. I didn’t have on a metal breast plate like a lot of actors do in a scene like that.

“Instead I had a piece of acrylic clear plastic about the size of a Post-it note over my heart. It was a quarter of an inch thick and not attached. In eight out of 10 takes with the prop knife, Jimmy had missed the plastic. But by a miracle, an act of God, the knife landed at the very edge of the plastic.”

Which does seem to beg the question …WHY ON EARTH… is the real knife so close to the prop one that it could be used in this kind of incident??

That’s horrible! Nice to hear that he’s at least OK! Others weren’t that lucky. Just take the prop accident with Brandon Lee…tragic….more precautions should be taken on set to prevent these kind of freak accidents!
