Soprano’s Star Cleared in the Death of Police Officer

Former Sopranos star Lillo Brancato Jr., after spending three years behind bars awaiting trial has been cleared of all charges following the 2005 shooting of an off-duty police officer.
He was however found guilty of attempted burglary and could face three years in prison.

Brancato, who played mobster Mathew Bevilaqua in the Sopranos drama had been charged in connection with the death of Officer Daniel Enchautegui in New York.

Prosecutors claimed that Enchautegui had disturbed Brancato and his friend Steven Armento as they attempted break into the house of one of his neighbors in Bronx, New York, whereupon Armento fatally shot the off-duty officer.

Brancato insisted he did not know that Armento, who has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, was armed.

“This jury spoke loud and clear that Lillo had nothing to do with the murder of this police officer,” said his attorney Joseph Tacopina.

Tacopina added that he believes that Brancato may not have to serve a prison sentence because he has been behind bars for three years already awaiting trial.

The whole scenario still begs the question.. WHY.. was a rising star burglarizing someones home??
