Two of the child stars who had parts in the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire are about to have permanent homes, away from the Mumbai slums.
Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismali, two kids who portrayed younger versions of the main characters in the film will be relocated to free homes, which are more secure, as their reward for bringing “laurels to the country”.
“Since the children have made the nation proud, they must be given free houses,” local housing association chairman Amarjeet Singh Manhas told The Times Of India.
The youngsters currently live in shacks in the Garib Nagar slum, where they were plucked from obscurity to star in Danny Boyle’s film.
Pity they didn’t deserve secure housing and good educations just by virtue of being children isn’ it?
