Actor Sam Shepard, who has starred in hit movies such as “The Accidental Husband”, “The Notebook” and “Black Hawk Down”, pleaded guilty to DUI and speeding in an Illinois court room yesterday.
“I never intend to drive under the influence again… it’s not worth it,” the actor told the judge, according to the Pantagraph.com.
Shepard was arrested on January 3 in Normal, Illinois, after police stopped him for driving 16 mph over the speed limit (46 mph in a residential area). His blood-alcohol level proved to be 0.175 at the time, which is more than twice the legal limit.
The 65-year-old actor was fined $600 and court costs and has been placed on 24 months court supervision. He also has to enroll in an alcohol treatment program and complete 100 hours of community service, the Associated Press reports.
The judge has set a hearing for September 25 to review Shepard’s compliance with the terms mentioned above.
