Golfing superstar Rory McIlroy has today called off his engagement to tennis star and fiancée Caroline Wozniacki just days after the couples wedding invitations were apparently sent out.
The couple got engaged in January this year when Rory proposed to Caroline at a New Years Eve party in Sydney Australia, but it appears as though the Northern Irish golfer is not ready for commitment just yet. In a statement issued this morning by his management company Rory said, “There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people. The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.”
The statement also said, “I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”
The news will have no doubt come as a shock to many this morning, because earlier this month Caroline hinted that she may well quit tennis to become a mother as she said, “I want to be a relatively young mother. I do not see it as being too far in the future.”
Only time will tell if Caroline gets her wish to become a young mother, but it appears as though Rory McIlroy will not be the doting father.
