Sony has hired “The Office” writer-producers Stupnitsky and Eisenberg to work on a third installment of the 1980s sci-fi-comedy “Ghostbusters”, according to Reuters.
The first “Ghostbusters” movie was released on June 8, 1984. It was produced/directed by Ivan Reitman and stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver. Some of the original cast members might reportedly be involved in the new project, but not in central roles.
“Ghostbusters” was at one point in time Sony’s top-grossing picture ($230 million in the U.S. and $50 million abroad) ever, until it was outdone by “Men in Black” and more recently all three “Spider-Man” movies, Reuters reports.
We can’t help but wonder if Hollywood has run out of ideas for new movies? All studios seem to do these days are remakes of – or sequels to – old successful flicks. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Departed (it was actually a remake of a Hong Kong movie), King Kong, Red Dragon, Planet of the Apes, Psycho, The Ring, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman, Superman, The Eye… the list goes on and on!
