Reese Witherspoon was out jogging in her neighborhood in Santa Monica, California on Wednesday when she was hit by a car. The driver is reported to be an 84 year old woman who was interviewed at the scene and was later cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian on a crosswalk.
Santa Monica Police were called to the scene at 11:14am; reportedly the car was travelling at 20miles per hour when it struck Witherspoon. Sgt. Richard Lewis told the Associated Press that Witherspoon was jogging in an unmarked crosswalk when she was struck.
The Oscar winning actress was taken to a local hospital where she was treated. She was later sent home the same day to rest and recover with her family. Witherspoon’s rep, Nanci Ryder released a statement which says that the actress only had minor injuries;
“The actress was not seriously injured and is resting comfortably at home.”
