Polls give final presidential debate to Barack Obama

Barack Obama, John McCain

Polls of people who watched the final presidential debate last night show that Democratic candidate Barack Obama, 47, came across as better qualified on both the economy and healthcare, while Republican candidate John McCain, 72, was seen as more negative and like a “typical politician”.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research poll, 58 percent said Obama did the best job while only 31 percent said McCain did.

According to a poll CBS News and Knowledge Networks conducted, 53 percent of the voters surveyed saw Obama as the winner of last night’s debate, while only 22 percent said McCain won. Twenty-five percent saw the debate as a draw.

Last night’s debate is not McCain’s only setback lately. MSNBC reports that McCain’s angry tone and recent personal attacks on Obama seem to have backfired.

According to a New York Times/CBS News poll, which was conducted before last night’s debate, more voters see McCain as waging a negative campaign than Obama. 6 in 10 voters surveyed said that they though McCain had spent more time attacking his rival than explaining what he actually would do if elected president.

Who do you think won the presidential debate last night?

McCain did put up a fight in the debate and I think he may have scored some points with Independents. Here is a pretty good review of the debate last night.

Obama won the debate. He really seemed to know what he was talking about, while McCain came off as a grumpy old man.

LOl Chalk it up to prettier makeup. Obama is running on who he knows, not what he knows.. While I’m quite sure he’s going to be elected, I’m equally certain we’ve got another Clinton type debacle to look forward too.

the fact that anyone is praising McCain for his performance in the third debate proves that he and Palin have lowered people’s expectations down to nothing (don’t forget, the VP debates were a tie!)
