Polanski Rape Case Bid Rejected

According to the Sun —  attorneys for the director Roman Polanski, a fugitive in the United States,  lost their bid to have the Los Angeles Superior Court disqualified from hearings stemming his decades old rape case.

His defense  team had filed a motion on Monday seeking the removal of Los Angeles Superior Court judges from hearings  in his case.. Polanski you may recall fled to France in 1978 before his case was concluded.

Peter Espinoza, the judge said in a written decision lawyers had given “no legal grounds for disqualification” .

Polanski’s lawyers had previously stated that they had new evidence that the film-maker was a victim of prosecutorial misconduct in the case, in which he admitted at the time to “unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor”.

Polanski has not been back to the US since then, even to receive his award for the movie Pianist.
