On the Odd side, and speaking of deja vu, the UK paper the Telegraph reports that the Pied Piper of Hamlin may need to make a return visit.
Officials from the small town in northern Germany have reported an “explosion” in the community’s rodent population.
An unauthorized dumping of garbage on the edge of the north German town has been blamed for the vast increase in rats, which are threatening the town’s planned 725th anniversary events, reports The Telegraph.
Hamelin spokesman Thomas Wahmes said the makeshift dump has become a “refuge” for the unwelcome rodents.
Legend has it that in 1284, a ratcatcher arrived in the town and lured rodents away by playing his mystical pipe. When the greedy townsfolk then refused to pay him, he returned on St. John’s Day and used his music to lure Hamelin’s children away in revenge.
