Animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – PETA – has named talk show host Oprah Winfrey as its “Person of the Year.”
But PETA has also attacked its fair share of celebrities during the year too. Here are four of them:
1. Britney Spears
The animal rights group PETA attacked pop princess Britney Spears earlier this month for using captive elephants in her “Circus” music video.
2. Gwyneth Paltrow
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow endorsed a new collection of clothes, including fur goods, this past August. This angered PETA. “We’ve written to her [Gwyneth Paltrow] many times, and sent her videos showing how animals suffer for fur, but have never received a response”, a spokesman for the organization said.
3. Sharon Stone
PETA offered “Basic Instinct” star Sharon Stone a brain scan, after the actress said that the earthquake in China was a result of “karma”. According to TMZ.com, PETA was willing to pay for a brain scan that would determine whether “the comments and actions that seem to demonstrate a lack of empathy are the result of a physical defect.”
The animal rights organization was also very, very upset when Stone arrived at Elton John’s Oscar Party wearing a brooch made from a rat’s paw.
4. Jessica Simpson
PETA’s No. 1 celebrity spokesperson Pamela Anderson called Jessica Simpson a “b-tch” and a “wh-re” on an Australian radio show in June. Why? Well, because the singer had been seen wearing a T-shirt with the slogan “Real Girls Eat Meat” on it.
