Obama’s choice of one of the most vocal anti gay Southern Baptist style, hard line preachers to swear him in has created the first inkling of trouble in paradise. Rick Warren, whose stance on gays and other issues has assuredly infuriated many of Obama’s gay supporters, has even hard line Republicans doing a quick double take at hearing he was the selection to swear Obama in.
Political activists claim his selection of men to swear him in is a slap in the face to the gay groups who worked so hard to see him elected to his office and many of them are sounding off about that choice.
Obama, who promoted unity and national pride, open minds and building bridges, according to some, just sold one of his core support groups down the river… 🙂 without a bridge…
Obama’s selection of men to “honor”, to bring into the spotlight, with the opportunity to swear him in is in reality a man who has chosen to liken gay marriage to incest and being a pedophile, so the reasons for the anger are certainly understandable, but what are his reasons for the choice. Is he really trying to build bridges?. Of course he likely is, as any smart man might be, yet…it begs the question, why select this group to offend…
One comment on Obama’s selection asked the obvious question.. if you are building bridges and in so doing, honoring and embracing bigots, why not just invite an anti-Semite or a member of the KKK to swear you in?” She answered her own question by responding, because the general public, the blacks and the Jewish residents would not tolerate it.. apparently the gays are less in numbers and perhaps then, easier to offend with impunity?
The gay rights groups are in many cases very offended by the selection and have vocalized it across the news, with sources too numerous to cite.
What do you think..In seeking to build bridges at the expense of a group which avidly supported his campaign, has Obama built the proverbial “bridge too far?”
