German singer Nadja Benaissa has been arrested this week on the suspicion that she knowingly infected her partner with the HIV virus.
The 26-year-old, who rose to fame in the girlband No Angels, was arrested on Saturday in Frankfurt, where she was expected to perform a solo show.
According to German media reports, the star is accused of having unprotected sex with three different men between 2004 and 2006 and did not inform them that she was HIV-positive.
The prosecutor’s office in the town of Darmstadt confirmed that one of the singer’s reported partners had since tested positive for the virus and that Benaissa had been detained due to “urgent suspicion”.
If found guilty, the star could face up to 10 years in prison.
