Jennifer Hudson, the Oscar winner who came to our attention first on American Idol has come to our attention today, for reasons far less pleasant.The mother and brother of Jennifer, one of America’s most celebrated singers, were reportedly found, having been shot dead today in Chicago’s South Side .
A supporter of Mr Obama, Hudson sang the national anthem at the Democratic Party’s convention in Denver in August on the night when Mr Obama accepted the presidential nomination.
“We can confirm that there is an ongoing investigation concerning the deaths of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason Hudson,” Hudson’s personal publicist, Lisa Kasteler, said in a statement. “No further comment will be made and the family has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.” Police say that as of last night the drama is still playing out, but that they believe it to be a domestic incident, and that they are seeking a suspect along with a seven-year-old boy, who is possibly the nephew of Hudson. He is named as Julian King.
“A missing child was possibly abducted from the scene and may be in the company of William Balfour, a suspect in double homicide investigation,” the Chicago police said in a statement, adding that the suspect was “armed and dangerous”.
