Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman, 71, is listed in serious condition in a Memphis hospital after a car accident Sunday night, according to E! Online.
The accident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. outside Ruleville, Miss.
The editor of the Charleston Sun Sentinel newspaper, who arrived at the scene, has said that the rescuers had to use the jaws of life [hydraulic cutters] to extract the actor from the vehicle. However, Freeman was conscious and talked to the rescuers before he was airlifted to the hospital.
Kathy Stringer, a spokeswoman for the regional medical centre in Memphis, describes the actor’s condition as “serious”.
Freeman was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima that belonged to a woman by the name of Demaris Meyer, who was also a passenger in the car, when it ran off the road and overturned several times. The woman’s condition is yet unknown, according to The Huffington Post.
