Monsters vs. Aliens tops the box office

It seems as though people are still going to the movies, despite the economic crisis…
Dreamworks’ animated action comedy “Monsters vs. Aliens”, featuring the voices of actress Reese Witherspoon and “24” star Kiefer Sutherland, has claimed the biggest U.S. box office opening of the year so far with $58.2 million.
The movie managed to surpass the $55.2 million the superhero flick “Watchmen” earned during its first weekend in early March.
Here are the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, as reported by Media by Numbers LLC:
