Midwest Woman Arrested for Library Book

Shelly Koontz, from Iowa, was told that she is facing a fifth-degree theft charge on Thursday after failing to return the borrowed copy  of The Freedom Writers Diary in her possession since April 2008.

Employees at the Jesup public library in Iowa had made repeated attempts to contact Koontz when the book was not returned. In September, a police officer visited the woman’s home but was unable to speak to her.

Koontz was released from police custody after making a $200 bail payment.

The Freedom Writers Diary tells the story of a teacher who tries to inspire her students and has a retail price of $13.95.

🙂 We’ve always said.. Its all about the bucks in the midwest.

Poor woman! She should’ve just bought the book for $13.95 and then the author would have gotten paid as well. 🙂
