Former first lady, Michelle Obama has announced the release of her memoires later this year, a week after the 2018 midterm elections.
Becoming
Former President Obama’s wife announced the news on Sunday saying that her book titled “Becoming” is coming out this November.
This is one of the most anticipated books in 2018.
Penguin Random House, the publisher of the book, described it as “an unusually intimate reckoning from a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations and whose story inspires us to do the same”.
Michelle wrote about all the experiences in her life that shaped her, from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive. She described balancing between work and motherhood as well as about her time in the most famous addresses in the world. This deeply personal experience promises to be “warm, wise and revelatory”.
This experience has allowed Michelle to honestly reflect the trajectory of her life and how a little girl had found her voice and courage to become who she is today.
The tour and promotion
Michelle will embark on an international tour prior to the release to promote the book. “Becoming” will be printed in 24 languages from Swedish to Arabic, and sell for $32.50 in the United States.
The agreement with the publisher is reportedly worth more than $65 million. Obama plans to donate one million copies of the book to a Washington-based nonprofit that is dedicated to “promoting equal access to education by providing new books, learning materials and other essentials to children in need”.
This memoire will be Michelle Obama’s second book and is expected to be a major commercial and cultural event. She is admired around the world and has never told her story at length so far. In 2012, Michelle published “American Grown”, a book that promoted the White House kitchen garden and healthy living.
Her husband Barack Obama is also working on a memoire, expected to come out at the end of the year. The former president has published two books so far, Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope.
As first lady, Michelle helped in creating the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history and established herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls and definitely has something to say.
We simply can’t wait for the book to come out.
