Olympic champion Michael Phelps has been suspended for three months by USA Swimming because of the now world famous photograph of him smoking pot, TMZ.com reports.
“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” USA Swimming says in a statement.
The organization has reportedly also cut off all financial support to the Olympic champion for the three months he is suspended.

Kellogg is not very happy about the fact that their Frosted Flakes spokesperson Michael Phelps smokes pot and has therefore decided not to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the month.
“…Michael’s most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg”, the company says in a recently released statement.
