Yesterday, 64-year-old actress Mia Farrow went on a hunger strike in solidarity for the people of Darfur, Fox News reports.
Farrow, who is also known for her extensive humanitarian work as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, will reportedly drink ONLY water for three weeks to express her “outrage at the world that is somehow able to stand by and watch innocent men, women and children needlessly die of starvation, thirst and disease.”
But even though a hunger strike is not really without risk for the already skinny actress (she only weighs 110 pounds), she is determined to go through with it and is even encouraging others to do the same.
“I hope human rights advocates and citizens of conscience around the world will join me in some form of fasting, even if for one day. And when I can no longer continue, I pray another will take my place, and another — until finally there is justice and peace for Darfur’s people”, she is quoted as saying by Fox News.
Farrow has her own website, which features a guide on how to get involved with Darfur. The site also includes her photographs and blog entries from Darfur, Chad, and the Central African Republic. And yesterday, she blogged about the first day of her hunger strike. You can check out her website/blog here!
