A long time folk singer and heroine of musicians Mary Travers of Peter, Paul, and Mary succumbed to leukemia. She was among the best known singers of all time, launching careers when she and the other members of the trio sang music that was written by then unknown song writers, Gordon Lightfoot and Dylan.
Along the way they protested a little and stood up for what they believed. Singing Blowin’ In the Wind”, which became a hit for them as well as a civil rights anthem, Peter, Paul and Mary fully embraced the equality cause as they marched with King in Selma, Ala., and performed with him in Washington.
One more in the long line of missing greats that have been lost in 2009.
