In the July/August issue of AARP The Magazine, 67-year-old Martin Sheen, who played President on “The West Wing”, talks about how he helped his son, Charlie Sheen, kick the habit.
“The only way I got Charlie, frankly, was because he’d skipped out of the hospital. I had to pay the bill. In paying the bill, I got to see why he was in there. He’d consumed an illegal substance; he was on probation; he was not allowed to have these substances,” Martin tells the magazine, and explains that he turned Charlie in to the authorities – something that eventually saved his son’s life.
Martin also talks about his own problems with alcohol and says that it was his faith that got him sober.
