After months of speculation, Madonna’s spokesperson Liz Rosenberg has finally confirmed that Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s marriage is over.
“Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after 7 l/2 years of marrige,” Rosenberg said in a statement to The Associated Press. “They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time. A final settlement has not been agreed upon yet.”
The British newspaper The Sun reports that the couple decided to go public with the split, because they “can’t bear to live with the pretense any longer”.
(The rumor has it that Madonna has hired Paul McCartney’s divorce lawyer Fiona Shackleton to represent her.)
Madonna and Ritchie were married in Scotland on Dec. 22, 2000. They have two sons together, Rocco, 7, and David Banda, whose adoption from Malawi was approved in May.
The singer also has an 11-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from a pervious relationship.
