Recent reports have been speculating that Madonna is the feature artist who will be performing for the next Super Bowl XLVI’s halftime show. According to sports blog SBNation.com Madonna has been lined up for the much coveted time slot but as yet reps have neither confirmed nor denied the rumors. The next championship game takes place Feb. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Madonna would join an impressive list; Prince, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen have been featured artists over the last 10 years.
Organizers haven’t always chosen well, last year’s performance by the Black Eyed Peas didn’t get great reviews and Janet Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” in 2004 still hasn’t quiet been forgotten.
This would be an ideal opportunity for Madonna to promote her new album which she announced last month. Her new album will be released in the spring and the first single will be released in February or March.
