Madonna knows how to win friends in Malawi. This time by moving the locals off the land she wants to use to build a school the land, actually belonging to the government was apparently in use by locals who were living there.
Madonna’s plans to build a school in Malawi have reportedly resulted in around 200 villagers being forced to move home.
The singer is believed to have paid nearly $115,000 to former residents of Blantyre, made to relocate by government officialsto clear room for her $15m Raising Malawi Girls Academy.
A commissioner’s office official: “The district commissioner for Lilongwe told the villagers to move off the land and make way for the construction of the academy because it was government land reserved for development projects.”
