Apparently Shevelle Rhule (Fashion editor for Pride, a magazine that targets the black Brit community) isn’t in the least impressed by the new Loreal ads that feature Beyonce. “For all the talk of ‘black is beautiful’, images like this clearly show that we’ve got a very long way to go yet.” she is quoted as saying.
The ads in question, a Feria hair color promotion, are featured in Elle magazine and show Beyonce with what everyone seems to believe is a much lighter complexion than she truly possesses.
Loreal is under the gun for allegedly lightening up Beyonce’s skin tones in the ads, but do however deny any sort of wrong doing in their responses.
In a response to the criticism, Loreal responded “We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L’Oreal Paris altered Ms. Knowles’ features or skin tone in the campaign for Feria hair color”
Here’s the multimillion dollar question. Do we believe them? Is it possible that it was done and they aren’t “fessing up”?
After viewing the ad and the normal photos, we’ve got to wonder.
Beyonce, okayed the ad, she knew that the skintone for her in that ad was lighten, unfortunately like so many other “blacks”who have a problem with relating to being black: case in point-BET’s old Bob Johnson, unfortunately, he cannot pass for white, but he would surely like to try. These people know what the companies are doing, and they know the message it sends, so why is there concern, about Beyonce’s light/white skin?
I think you could be right about some people not feeling at ease with who they are, but the truth of the matter is, that Beyonce got famous for BEING who she is. I doubt that shes not comfortable with it.
I’d guess if it really did happen that it was someone else who just thought it looked a better skin tone with the hair color and didnt’ think of the consequences.
From photographic point of view, I’ve very often photoshopped a picture to change the contrast and it ended up with some changes to the person that I didn’t pay much attention to until someone commented on them.
The fact is that when something like this happens, no matter how innocent it may or may not be, we’re all fairly quick to jump on it just by virtue of who they are, don’t you think?
This his nothing to do with skin tone.. its the product…which in not for Black Hair…..
