Lil Nas X has won his first Country Music Award.
His collaboration with legendary country singer Billy Ray Cyrus on the “Old Town Road (Remix)”, which stayed as No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for 20 weeks, was named a Musical Event at this year’s CMA Awards.

The award was announced on “Good Morning America”.

The 53rd annual Country Music Association Awards took place on Wednesday evening (November 13th) in Nashville and Carrie Underwood hosted the night alongside country music legends Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.
Some of the biggest names in country music were present. Garth Brooks was The Entertainer of the Year, while The Album of the Year award went to Maren Morris.
Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus beat some of country music’s most esteemed artists such as duo Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks and Maren Morris, to win Musical Event of the Year category.
“I’m so happy this song was accepted because it is the bridging of two polar opposite genres. I’m happy it’s gotten respect from both places, “ Lil Nas X stated after the ceremony.

The 20-year-old Lil Nas X has become the first openly gay black artist to win a CMA award, despite being initially rejected by country music elite. With this coveted award, he’s continuing to break boundaries in the music industry.
Lil Nas X made headlines when he and Cyrus won the Song of the Year award for “Old Town Road” at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Most recently the rapper was given Smithsonian’s American Ingenuity Award for Youth.
The artist is also rumored to dominate the 2020 Grammy Award knowing he’s been nominated in six different categories:

- Best Rap/Sung Performance
