Two pictures have emerged on social networks this week that everyone is buzzing about. Comedian Cathy Griffin has shaved her entire head to support her sister’s battle with cancer.
Shaving her Head
Joyce Griffin, the only sister of Kathy’s five siblings, is struggling with cancer and Kathy shaved her head in solidarity. Although the comedian hasn’t spoken publicly about her sister’s fight with the disease, two pictures emerged on Twitter and Instagram. An image of the 56-year-old Kathy smiling and patting her cleanly-shaved head was shared by journalist Yashar Ali with the caption “In solidarity with her sister who is going through chemo, @kathygriffin shaved her head.”
“The only sign of her famous red locks left: Her fiery eyebrows.”
The second picture showed Kathy’s mother Maggie holding her hand over her mouth as she patted Kathy’s bare head. Her mother later commented on this display of support and to share pride in her daughter – “My daughter Kathleen Mary is a wonderful human being”.
It is not clear what type of cancer Joyce is battling but Kathy has a tragic family past with cancer. She has already lost her older brother in 2014 in what she called “a brutal struggle”. Gary Griffin, aged 63, lost his battle to stage-four oesophageal cancer two years after he had been diagnosed.
Donald Trump Controversy
Griffin was already in the news these couple of months with a photo of her holding a decapitated head resembling President Donald Trump emerging earlier in May. Despite apologising, she was sacked by CNN and questioned by Secret Service for almost an hour. Donald Trump refused to accept her grovelling apology.
“Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself,’ Trump tweeted. “My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
The scandal had done significant damage to her professionally. ‘I don’t think I will have a career after this,’ she said. ‘I’m going to be honest, [Trump] broke me’, she added.
Just last week Kathy announced she was no longer under federal investigation for the controversial photo.
She wrote “The case is closed and I have been completely exonerated. Finally.”
