Legendary musician/songwriter/ actor Isaac Hayes passed away Sunday morning at his home in Memphis, Tennessee.
According to inrich.com, a family member found Hayes on the floor near a treadmill in his home. He was pronounced dead about an hour later at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, but the cause of death has not yet been determined.
His death came only 10 days before his 66th birthday.
Isaac Hayes might be best known for creating the theme for the 1971 hit movie “Shaft”, which he received an Academy Award for Best Original Song (the first Academy Award received by an African-American in a non-acting category) and two Grammy Awards for.
However, among the somewhat younger audience, he might be best known as the voice of Chef on the animated television show “South Park.”
