We were all expecting the first self-financed production from Marvel Studios to take the No. 1 spot at this weekend’s box office, but nobody expected it to rake in a stunning $100,750,000!!!
The film “Iron Man” starring Robert Downey Jr. is truly the first summer blockbuster in quite some time to break the $100 million mark in its opening weekend. It is the second best opening of all time for a non-sequel movie after “Spider-Man,” which took in $114.8 million in its opening weekend 6 years ago.
The rom-com “Made of Honor” starring Patrick Dempsey was the only other new release this weekend and it debuted in second place with $15.5 million.
Last week’s box office leader “Baby Mama” dropped to No. 3 with $10.33 million.
