Australian actor Hugh Jackman, who stars in the new movie “Australia” with Nicole Kidman (but who is probably better known for his role as Wolverine in the “X-Men” flicks), will be hosting the 81st Annual Academy Awards, according to Fox News.
Jackman has never been nominated for an Academy Award himself, and considering the fact that his big-budget movie “Australia” was not even among the 2009 Golden Globe nominations, we guess he won’t be this year either.
However, by hosting the show the 40-year-old actor will in a way make history by breaking a long and distinguished tradition of only A-list comedian hosts for the Academy Awards. But don’t worry, Jackman has award-winning hosting experience. In 2005, he actually won an Emmy for hosting the 58th annual Tony Awards in 2004. He has also served as a presenter on the Oscar show.
The Academy Awards will be held on Feb. 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.
