Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he is open to debate the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in California.
“I think it’s time for debate. I think all of those ideas of creating extra revenues. I’m always for an open debate on it,” he says.
Gov. Schwarzenegger also says that California should study other nations’ experiences in legalizing and taxing marijuana.
The Terminator’s got it. Many other states have decriminalized pot, but not legalized it. Since it’s decriminalization it’s costing states money. Taxation would raise money.
Massachusetts gives tickets of $100 for each offense under one ounce. But no one pays and the state doesn’t enforce it as it wouldn’d be “worth it”. Legalization would raise tens of millions of dollars.
