The actor and director George Clooney was at the Venice Film Festival with Matt Damon to promote their new film “Suburbicon”, which will be released on October 27 after it finishes the festival circuit.
The Praise
Clooney, who directed the forthcoming movie starring Julianne Moore and Mat Damon, told Entertainment Tonight that Damon is the best actor he has ever worked with, and coming from him we know that’s one hell of a compliment.
“Matt’s the greatest actor I’ve ever worked with,” he said. “In fact, I don’t know a better actor I’ve seen in my life. I’m trying to think if there’s a better actor. Nope, there’s not a better actor. No, there is not.”
In “Suburbicon”, the sixth movie Clooney directed, Damon is seen as a quiet family man who fights back when a brutal break-in results in his wife’s death after his secret mob debts catch up with him. Matt was also full of praise for his “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star saying that it’s not the first time the two have been working together and that Clooney is talented and brilliant.
“He does things that other directors just can’t do. He pays me in cash daily. You just don’t see others doing that at this level. He’s fantastic. I’ve done a bunch of movies with him as a producer, as a writer, as an actor, as a director and it’s why I keep coming back. He’s over-prepared.”
The “Bromance”
George is grateful, not only for their professional relationship, but also their personal one.
The two actors have been friends for over 20 years. The two first met in 1999, right after Clooney was leaving his Emmy nominated show, ER. Damon watched him switch his career from TV star to Oscar-winning actor and producer, and that’s what impressed him the most.
And although Clooney changed a lot in professional sense, Damon said in a recent interview he’s very much the same person calling him incredibly loyal, with a great heart and a very smart man. The experience helped them build an unbreakable bond that’s stronger than ever today.
“He’s somebody whose opinion I really value,” Damon said of their friendship. “If I’m working on a script, I’m sending it to him for notes; if I’m doing a movie I’m showing him a cut and asking for suggestions.”
George, who recently became a father to twins, Ella and Alexander, is very excited about new chapter in his life and takes dad advice from Matt, experienced father of four.
