The Clintons’ cat Socks has died. After a battle with cancer of the jaw, Socks was euthanized Friday, The Washington Post reports.
According to Socks’ caretaker, Betty Currie, the little cat was not eating and would not get up Friday morning. Given the cat’s worsening condition, Currie contacted a vet, who agreed that it was time to put Socks down.
Socks was a stray when he was adopted by the Clintons. He would have turned 20 this spring.
In a statement, Bill and Hillary Clinton said Socks brought their family much happiness, and they also thanked their good friend Currie for taking such loving care of the cat.
Currie had been taken care of Socks since the Clintons left the White House eight years ago.
