Fashion critic Mr. Blackwell dies at 86

Mr. Blackwell

Mr. Blackwell, the fashion designer/critic whose annual worst-dressed list poked fun at celebrities such as Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan, Barbra Streisand and Sandra Bullock, died Sunday of complications from an intestinal infection. He was 86 years old.

Mr Blackwell’s List
Mr. Blackwell’s first “Ten Worst Dressed Women” list premiered in 1960 and by its third year every television station and radio network started to cover it. Generally, Blackwell only included women who capitalized on their flamboyant appearances or the mega-wealthy on his list. And he never seemed to care if he offended any of them with his boorish comments.

Here are some of the celebrities who have had the misfortune to end up on Mr. Blackwell’s worst dressed lists over the years… and what he said about them:

Paris Hilton: “The Burger Queen Sensation may be very rich – but she still looks like yesterday’s cheesecake… with a side of kitsch.”

Victoria Beckham: “Forget the fashion spice – wearing a skirt would suffice! In one skinny-mini monstrosity after another, pouty posh can really wreck-em.”

Mary Kate Olsen: “YIKES! In layers of cut-rate kitsch, Mary Kate’s look is hard to explain…she resembles a tattered toothpick-trapped in a hurricane!”

Avril Lavigne: “Gothic make-up courtesy the mad spatula-Fashions provided by…The house of Dracula!”

Lindsay Lohan: “Tragically trapped in fashion’s fast lane…looks like Lindsay’s ready to remake “Baby Jane.” From adorable to deplorable.”

Cameron Diaz: “Looks like she was dressed by a color-blind circus clown, & when it comes to fashion, it’s chaos when Cameron’s back in town.”

Queen Elizabeth: “Was she the palace Christmas tree, or just a royal clown? I’ve seen a lot of queens, but Queen Elizabeth is the worst!”

Martha Stewart: “Dresses like the centerfold for Farmers’ Almanac”

Barbra Streisand: “What can I say? Yentl ‘s gone mental!”

Dixie Chicks: “They look like a trio of truck stop fashion tragedies trapped in a typhoon”.

Sandra Bullock: “A Victorian lampshade on the loose.”
