The actress, who is best known for her role as Marie Barone in the long running sit-com Everybody Loves Raymond, Doris Roberts pasted away this past Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the age of 90.
A representative for Doris Roberts confirmed this sad news stating that Doris passed away of natural causes peacefully in her sleep.
This amazing actress earned a total of four Emmys for the role of the very caring matriarch to her two sons Robert (Brad Garrett) and Ray (Ray Ramano) in the sit-com Everybody Loves Raymond. Doris played this part throughout the whole series of nine seasons, starting with the September 1996 pilot. Peter Boyle who played the role of Doris’s husband, the crabby Frank Barone, passed away in December of 2006.
Patricia Heaton, Everybody Loves Raymond costar tweeted her condolences on this past Monday, stating that Doris’s death is “truly the end of an era.” The series creator Phil Rosenthal as well as the actress Monica Horan who plays the role of Amy also expressed their own grief.
Doris Roberts also won an additional Emmy for her guest appearance in 1982 on St. Elsewhere and is very well known for the roles she played in the TV series such as Cagney & Lacey, Remington Steele, as well as The Middle and Melissa & Joey. Doris also appeared in films which included Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star and Grandma’s Boy as well as The Heartbreak Kid.
This St. Louis born actress got her start on Broadway in the 50’s; recently she also starred in a Doritos ad that just aired during the 2016 Super Bowl Game.
Doris Roberts is survived by her son Michael Cannata Jr., his wife, Jane and three beautiful grandchildren, Devon, Andrew and Kelsey.
