It has now been officially announced that Eddie Murphy will host the Oscars. As we reported a couple of days ago, Murphy was being widely tipped to host the 84th annual Academy awards. It has now been officially confirmed that Murphy has said yes to host the next Oscars ceremony.
Brett Ratner and Don Mischer, who are both producing the next Oscars, confirmed the news. On the subject of why he thought that Murphy was the best choice for the job, Ratner said;
“Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever,” said Ratner, “With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances, especially on stage, I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show.”
The last two Oscars ceremonies were co-hosted without a great deal of success, for the next ceremony Oscars producers are hoping to get back to the comic success of the years when Billy Crystal or Whoopi Goldberg hosted the awards.
