Duggars Score 18

Duggar Family on the Today Show

The reality television show maven, Michelle Duggar has just scored her 18th child. A new daughter, born last week to Michelle and Jim Bob.. (Yep you heard right.. Jim Bob), has been named Jordyn, according to the release on the reality tv shows site. The family lives in a palatial home in Arkansas, with Daddy as the unchallenged spiritual and homestead leader.
Michelle says that the children are a gift from God, and it is “God’s will” that they have so many.

Jordyn, the new arrival will come home to by another sister , and another brother, and another, and another, and so on and so on.

All 10 boys and seven girls have names which begin with J.. the family hawks their reality television show, their book, their web site and so on..
What do you think? God’s will ? Are they using their kids to get famous?

I personaly think its crap. If the woman had just flipped God the bird and taken birth control pills, they would not BE famous because the only thing that made them famous is all the kids.

It’s not something that I truly can admire, especially with the fact that they sort of pimp out their family by letting them be used for reality television and book deals. Is that so they can pay the bills for the 18 children? I love kids and I encourage old family values but this is a touch much.

Home schooled, activities limited, teenaged girls carrying babies in backpacks all day, answerable for the care of the tiny babies and infants, set on a schedule that gives them an hour or so of free time each day.. etc etc.. sounds a whole lot more like a cult run by a control freak than a family.

Hey Tom. As you know, up to a point I agree with what you’re saying, but thats a fine point. Its possible to have a family and do whats best for them, even if its a large family. I come from a family of eight so I know it can be done and its not necessarily a cult.. LOL.

Still I think we make too much of it.It’s gotten to the point where its gagging in its sweet simplicity and rather overdone in the media.

Girls neatly dressed with pretty bows and dresses, climbing the indoor climbing wall.. reality television my butt. That’s not realistic, and in this case I think it needs to be callled, touched up reality tv … we’d be daft to think that they’d put their darlings on television in scroungy jeans and a tee shirt.. but common sense says that at some point, they are going to wear them and look less than perfect. We don’t see that side of these kids on television or in their photos. which leads a lot of the Duggars detractors to think its a fairy tale, played out for our amusement.
I guess my last comment would be.. if the ASPCA went to a home and found them harboring 20 cats.. they’d be cat collectors.. if they permitted one female cat to have twenty litters, PETA would step in and call them bad people. and point out the many kittens in need of a good home, so we shouldn’t make more..
    LOL.
Yet popping out 18 kids is acceptable.. even encouraged. If they want a big family, have a big family..but encouraging a media frenzy, billing themselves as expert parents who have the right to offer their skills in a book, seems like more ego than anything else.. anyone can have 18 kids, and anyone can saddle the children with the chores and the care of the younger infants.. I dislike what I view as their encouragement of the media to focus on they and their family, to take advantage of their many children and use that “difference” to the nth degree to give themselves some status.

I think it’s great having a show about such a big family. Nowadays people treat children as a burden and not something to be cherished. It’s a “convenience” and nothing more. And maybe even if it does look a little fake sometimes, that’s not something you can blame on the family. That’s just how directors, people working the camera, and editors work. Yea it’s annoying but what can you do? Definitely would not say this is a cult. They’re not the only ones who have a big family. My husbands family consists of 15 children.
God bless them for trusting God with all those kids. I can look at the show as a learning tool. It’s neat seeing how Michelle handles all those responsibilities in her organized way. It gives me tips just in case I have a large family someday.
