Not your normal Hot Gossip celebrity stuff, we still thought this dad deserves to be a celebrity, even if only for a day. Nope, he’s not Michael Jackson, not Brad or Angelina, but he had the right stuff.
A hero dad died last night saving his 6-year-old son from a speeding hit-and-run driver. The idiot driver left behind him a long and distinguished trail of damage in the Bronx after a fight with his wife at a Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant, police said.
The moron at the wheel plowed his car into Miguel Colon, 36, a split second after Colon pushed his son Sebastian out of harm’s way, relatives said.
“The boy kept crying, ‘Daddy! Daddy, what happened?'” said witness Sam Alhadis, 16, who works at a nearby deli.
Colon, a Bronx father of two, was still holding onto his son’s bicycle when the speeding driver in his 2008 Infiniti slammed into him about 6 p.m. as he crossed the intersection of E.Gun Hill Road and Knapp St. in Baychester.
Hit-and-run driver Mark St. Pierre, 36, of the Bronx, was exceeding 60 miles an hour when he hit Colon, cops said.
At least a dozen other people suffered minor injuries as St. Pierre roared down the busyroadway in his temper tantrum.
“My son had a senseless death,” said Colon’s heartbroken father, Rafael Cruz, 66, who rushed to the scene and was greeted by the sight of Colon’s body in the street covered by a sheet.
“He [Colon] only had enough time to push his son out of the way,” said Mary Soto, 43, the victim’s aunt.
Here’s hoping the driver has a long and unpleasant stay in one of New Yorks guest houses.
