Cosby Respects Murphy’s Choice Not to Imitate Him on SNL

Bill Cosby is under some media pressure.

Eddie Murphy got his start on Saturday Night Live in the 1970’s. Ever since, he has been one of the giants of comedy, and who better to host the 40th anniversary special, which aired last weekend. Although Murphy did his expected bang-up job, according to writer and cast member, Norm Macdonald, there was one sketch the host refused to do.

No matter, no one is ever surprised to hear Murphy run off at the mouth with his hysterical take on life. However, the comedy legend backed away from a sketch involving an impression of Bill Cosby. It’s rumored that there was a sketch written in which Murphy would have been imitating Cosby, but Murphy decided that he did not want to have any part of it.

The Problem Ahead

Cosby has been in the news a lot lately after multiple accusations of drugging and sexually assaulting numerous women throughout his career. Under heavy scrutiny, Cosby has not admitted to anything, nor has he been indicted on any of the charges against him. And the one-time well-respected, honorable comedian is gratefully applauding Murphy’s choice.

Many believe that Cosby is not guilty, and it’s very possible that Murphy does not want to be involved in attacking such a reputable man before all the facts are in. A respectable decision these days since so many comedians are eager to jump on the bandwagon of insult so quickly. Although the choice made by Murphy could have been for any number of reasons.

Right now, all we know is that Murphy is an intelligent and respected comedian who chose to turn down an option to create some certain hilarity. It’s sometimes unfortunate that the public finds humor in some of life’s biggest tragedies, as well as the degradation of celebrities. Perhaps Murphy just didn’t want to slam a man who has worked tirelessly to build an upstanding career. On the other hand, Murphy might be convinced of Cosby’s guilt, and just didn’t want to make light of the situation. Either way, one thing’s for sure: Murphy did not bring his comic genius to the imitation of Bill Cosby.
