MAGGIE JONES, who played Coronation Streets most acid tongued mother in law died yesterday at the age of 75.
The Street stars broke out into a round of applause for this very talented and much loved star after they were told the news – which is said to be something unprecedented in the soap’s 49 year history.
In her honor filming was cancelled for the day.
Maggie who was a widow, had been rushed to hospital for an emergency in October and seemed to be making a slow recovery.
But her condition suddenly worsened and she died peacefully in her sleep. She has won multiple awards and was famous for her Coronation street acid like tongue which she used to put down anyone who got in her way.
The Blanche character first appeared on Corrie in the seventies but came back when she rejoined the cast after her husband passed away after 28 years of marriage.
